About the Show
Possibly the greatest musical from the collaboration of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, The Pirates of Penzance premiered in 1879, but is still much-loved today.
Set in southwest Cornwall, the story revolves around Frederic, a pirate’s apprentice, who falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. Believing himself released from his apprenticeship, having turned 21 years old, Frederic discovers that he was born in leap year on 29 February, and that, going by birthdays, he is technically only 5 and a quarter. Dedicated to duty, Frederic returns to the pirates, thinking he will be indentured for another 63 years! Can Frederic fnd a way to live happily-ever-after with his beloved Mabel?
Featuring the songs With Cat-like Tread, Poor Wand’ring One and I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General, Pirates will have you “rollicking” along in your seats. Come aboard before Pirates disappears over the horizon!
